Jan’s Pyramid Lake Spark Plug was designed for indicator nymph fishing in heavy surf. An extremely heavy midge style pattern. Tied on a 2X heavy wire hook, ready to hold your trophy.
Imitates: Due to the size of this fly, calling it a midge seems just plain wrong. We’ll just label it an attractor nymph.
Useful for: Pyramid Lake nymph style fishing under an indicator. Its size and colors are there to attract and anchor a second fly down when several split shot would otherwise be needed.
Tricks/Techniques: Tied originally to help anchor my second nymph down under an indicator when waves blew other fly fishers off the lake. This is the fly that the guy next to you was crushing with the last time the waves breaking on shore were big enough to surf. Try it shallow under the indicator to start, then lengthen the distance till you find the magic depth.
This fly is hand tied at my own bench in the United States of America under the highest of scrutiny. A tested and proven pattern.
